Viking Valknut and Jormungandr Dragon Pendant with 24 Inch Chain

We designed this pendant to combine two powerful symbols of Norse mythology. The outside depicts Jormungandr, the Midgard Serpent, which was a monster created by Loki. This serpent or dragon was incredibly powerful and dangerous, so much so that when Odin learned of the creature, he cast it out into the sea where instead of dying it flourished and grew to such monstrous proportion that it eventually encircled all of Midgard. Besides the dragon, this pendant contains a Valknut, (pronounced "VAL-knoot"), which is one of the most popular yet enigmatic symbols of Norse mythology. The word Valknut is a more modern Norwegian term that means "knot of those fallen in battle." It is most widely recognized as a prominent symbol adorning the 7th Century Tangelgarda stone on the island of Gotland, Sweden. While the true meaning of the Valknut is not fully known, historian H.R. Ellis Davidson describes the Valknut as a symbol relating to the power of the god Odin and his ability to lay bonds on the mind, thereby rendering men either helpless or crazed and fearless in battle.
