Viking Raven with Helm of Awe Pendant - Odin's Ravens Hugin and Munin
The design of this raven is very closely modeled after actual Viking artwork. Hugin and Munin were the ravens of Odin, serving as scouts and his eyes throughout the world. Because of this, ravens have always been very popular in Viking art, and are revered not only for their connection to Odin, but also for their intelligence and cunning. The raven in this pendant is clutching a "Helm of Awe" protection symbol, also known as Aegishjalmr, which is one of the most mysterious and powerful symbols of Norse mythology. This symbol is based on a repetition of the Norse "Z" rune "Algiz" which represents protection and prevailing over one's enemies. The backside of the pendant is flat and bears five runes which spell the name "Hugin". So overall, this pendant represents protection, perception, cunning, and being watched over by Odin.
