Round Viking Dragon Shield - Standard Version

The dragon of Norse mythology known as Jormungandr was said to have been created by Loki. But Odin eventually learned of the monster, and because it represented such a threat to mankind, he cast it into the sea to die. But instead of dying, the dragon grew, and continued to grow until it eventually encircled all of Midgard. This beautifully hand-painted shield is inspired by that fearsome creature, and this design encircles a heavy metal disc/boss in the center of the shield. Stainless steel studs line the border of the shield, and dual leather straps are used to secure the arm along the back—one going over the forearm and one intended to be gripped or held. An example of the straps and backside can be seen in the second photo. The shield is made out of a 1/2 inch thick smooth composite wood which is considerably stronger than plywood. The front of the shield has also been applied with several coats of topcoat/varnish to protect it through the years. It measures about 25 inches in diameter—more than enough to cover your arm way past the elbow. Whether for the wall or the battlefield, this shield is well balanced and ready to serve.
