Greek Spiral Shield with Wave Border

This very large 31 inch wooden shield features a Spiral design with a Greek "wave border" pattern along the edge. The spiral design and border pattern are painted in deep red on top of a light grey background. The shield's body is made out of a 1/2 inch thick smooth composite wood (which is considerably stronger and more durable than plywood). Dual leather straps are used to secure the arm along the back—one intended to be gripped and one strap that goes over the forearm. The shield has also been applied with several coats of varnish to further protect and preserve it from wear.
